BEACON Team Brings Back Big Ideas from the 21st CCLC Symposium

We're excited to share that three of our dedicated BEACON Afterschool Program team members, Misty Sims (Elementary Academic Coordinator), Melissa McKimmey (Operations Manager), and Candice Gary (Middle School Site Coordinator), recently attended the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Symposium.

This symposium provided a valuable opportunity for our team to connect with educators and experts from across the country, all focused on one important goal: creating enriching and impactful afterschool programs for our youth.

Learning from the Best

The symposium offered a wealth of information on best practices in afterschool program management, curriculum development, and fostering positive youth development. Our team members participated in workshops, listened to inspiring keynote speakers, and networked with colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities.

New Ideas for BEACON

Misty, Melissa, and Candice returned from the symposium brimming with enthusiasm and a fresh perspective on how to enhance the BEACON Afterschool Program. They're eager to implement new strategies and activities that will:

  • Expand learning opportunities: We're exploring ways to integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities, project-based learning, and creative expression into our program.

  • Boost student engagement: We're looking at innovative ways to make afterschool even more fun and engaging for students, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom.

  • Strengthen community partnerships: We believe collaboration is key. The symposium highlighted the importance of partnering with local organizations to provide a well-rounded afterschool experience.

Stay Tuned!

We're excited to share the positive impact of the 21st CCLC Symposium with our BEACON families and the Moab community. Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements about new program offerings and exciting activities!
